The Pastoral Needs, the Living Experience, the popular Church - and to hell with the children

Well from Germany that great home of empty Catholic Churches there is more ranting and raving about the Synod on the Family.  It is on a knives edge we are told.   Will Divorced and Remarried people be able to receive Holy Communion?   Will we show compassion to the gay community and recognise their unions.    Will we stop following tradition, that is the teaching of Jesus, and reach out to the Living Experience.

Forgive me if I say I am getting sick of the hypocricy of these bishops and their followers in Europe and the UK.   There is one group of people they always ignore when they pitch their human thinking against the Word of God - children.    The 'suffering' of not being able to receive Holy Communion is nothing to the suffering of the children who have lost a Father or a Mother.   Did you know that children who still live with their 'natural' parents are now envied by other children even in our Catholic schools.  I have had hard lessons taught to me over the years about just how disadvantaged most of these children are.    I was in Church one day when a 16 year old came to see me, she had just found out who her father was and had telephoned him.   He told her to go to hell he wanted nothing to do with her.   My grandchild has a friend who comes from a broken home.  Just the other week she and her friend were in my house and the granddaughter was being praised by the family for all her accomplishments in the violin and cheerleading and school accomplishments.  Her friend just looked on and I tried to find something she was accomplished in but she was just silent.   The contrast in the lives of the children was appalling.   Never having experienced a loving relationship in her parents marriage it will be difficult indeed for her to find a happy marriage herself.    This will be true I am sure of the majority of children in broken homes.   And there are also single mums whose children are even more disadvantaged.    And what is the greatest cause of poverty in the Western  World?   Broken homes and single motherhood.  May I say immediately that I am not being judgemental in the, I have met women raising children on their own and they have sacrificed their lives to look after their children but they can never overcome the lack of the influence of a Father.   But what help do they get from these cowardly bishops and priest.  When it comes to the outspoken words of Jesus in Mark 10 in order to keep popular they mutter something about lasting marriage being an ideal.   This is nothing less than a slur on Christ himself who was so against divorce that his disciples claimed that perhaps it was better not to marry.

I believe that what I have written will be discussed at the Synod.  These Bishops of Germany have influence at the Vatican and can steal the headlines but when the world bishops gather they will be very much in the minority - and that is good for the children.
