Bishop Egan under Fire

Let us be honest about where ordinary Catholics are in relation to Climate Change.   They see it as something political and unfortunately they have no facts given to them to back up the need for a drastic change in lifestyle.   From the early  days of Al Gore when we were all going to burn up by 2050, from the fear of ice melting in the Arctic leaving the Polar Bear unprotected and the melting ice giving rise to sea levels which would flood low lying countries the fact now that such things are easily disproved has led the Scientists involved to now claim that it is not apocalyhptic  but it is dangerous for some especially the poor and we must take their word for it - because they have a consensus.   True there are famines in the world, heat waves in many countries and astonishing flooding in others.  But we are only into studying weather for 130 years and it is a young science where there are many variables in given causes for climate change.   Having said all those can I be forgiven for stating that I do not believe in human produced Climate Change and I believe I have approached the subject fairly and squarely and I am offended when people to the Left call me a Denier - labelling me with Holocaust Deniers.

But when the Catholic Church enters into the Climate Change debate and demands obedience on matters in which it has no authority whatsoever and are seen to be standing side by side with people who for years have been giving aid to the poor but at the price of introducing anti-family measures such as abortion, forced contraception, and same sex marriage I find it hard not to criticise.  Of course there are many people in Justice and Peace Committees in the Church, in charity organizations within the Church who have watched this conditional aid for years but have said nothing since they have lost all belief in Catholic values and are even reluctant to oppose abortion.

Bishop Egan on matters of politics knows no better than the rest of us and he is guided by many of these people, just as the Pope in Rome has been guided by people with the same attitudes.   The Church has a mandate to protect the truths revealed by Christ and nothing else.  What is Caesars should be left to Caesare.    Pofrtsmouth was one of the most Protestant Diocese in the South of England till he came but his enemies are entrenched within many of the parishes.   Yes, he made a mistake and he has played into their hands but it is up to ordinary Catholics to play their part in returning the Diocese to normality.  Do not just leave it to Bishop Egan.
