Good for the Waldensians - they refuse apology for wrongs done.

A breaking story is that the Waldensian Protestants have refused an apology from Pope Francis for forgiveness for wrongs done to them.   The Pope was following the lead of Pope John Paul II and went into their temple to apologise and kiss their bible.    I am sorry nothing makes me more angry than this ecumenical stupidity.

It was all part of the New Church of course.  All those mean and spiteful Catholics were now ousted and a new sensitive and loving Church was now in place.   Yes, even in my parish we had a lecture on the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades and the terrible Church that was now replaced by Vatican II.    Unfortunately the speaker was so factless that I left the room in disgust.  But such bigotry being flaunted in a Catholic Parish was inexcusable.

I did not grow up in a ghetto, I had many Protestant friends in my young days and yes, there were talks on religion and disagreements.  There were the Orange Parades walking through Glasgow, and ministers ranting in the Kirk against Roman Catholics.   I forgive them but I do not need an apology from their children.

For the record a recent documentary on the BBC, yes British Broadcasting Association, has shown that 99 per cent of the accusation against Spain during the Inquisition are false and indeed only about 2 per cent were tortured but this did not include the rack, the lash, the Iron Maiden or any other device of torture.   It was in the rest of Europe that such things were happening.    Spain also saw witchcraft as a superstition and did not persecute or pursue such women.  This is quite a contrast as I say from the rest of Europe.  Even a national newspaper in England recently questioned the whole Bloody Mary nonsense.   King Henry VIII killed thousands and the atrocity committed against the Pilgrimage of Grace and the pursuit and torture and lynching in the West Country was an appalling piece in he history of England.    Elizabeth was also without honour in such matters.   There were two rebellions against Queen Mary Tudor and she was involved in both.   Placed in the tower Mary asked her husband Philip of Spain if she should be executed, but Philip fearing that through Mary Stuart the allies of England would be France, cautioned her against such action.

The Crusades is just a nonsense story.  Islam had already spread thoughout Europe by the sword and was reaching from Spain to France at the time.   Pilgrims to the Holy Land were being captured and murdered or enslaved by the Islamists and it was against this background of Islamic Conquest that the Crusades were started.

I heard a priest just recently apologising to Protestant for the past.   Will Protestants every apologise to Catholics?   I doubt if they would be so stupid.   But the anti-catholics who control the parishes will still be apologising and perhaps unlike the Waldensians they will not see any harm in forgiving but will be smirking at the stupidity of it all.
