On Turning the Tide

So what did Jesus have against Adultery and why was he so rigid about Divorce?   In Mathew 19 Jesus is asked about Divorce.  "Is it agains the Law for a man to divorce his wife on any pretext whatsoever?"   Notice 'on any pretest whatsoever ever', it is just what is happening today.    Jesus replied "Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator made them male and female.   And then he said "This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and becomes attached to his wife and the two become one flesh.    They are no longer two but one flesh,  so then what God has united human beings must not divide"    There is an objection raised to this rigid Jesus.   "But Moses allowed it"  To which Jesus replied "It was because you were so hard-hearted but from the beginning it was not so,  NOW I SAY TO YOU, ANYONE WHO DIVORCES HIS WIFE, AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT AFFAIRS OR ILLICIT MARRIAGES, {FORNICATION},  AND MARRIES ANOTHER IS GUILTY OF ADULTERY.

Now please do not give me all your objections that there is another translation and I am giving you mine.   Never in its early history did the Church allow Divorce.   There is no writer in the early Church who disputed it.   The Church was too family centred.   And by the way if anyone believes this does not apply in the present day Church, you need lots of prayers.   In destroying families there is neither love nor compassion.     A broken family means broken children.   I knew a couple of children no so long ago who wanted their parent married.   They applied to some Saturday children's show, which was offering some kind of help at the time.   Just imagine, the children really wanted  so much the marriage of their parents.   Why did it mean so much to them?    I have met many children who have been deserted by their father, even before their birth.  I know a family where spurred on by feminists the mother just walked out on the husband with her four children, saying she did not love him any more.   How did the children feel about it, they were never asked.   How does a child without a father grow up?   They grow up knowing their father did not want them, and this can bring depression.   I knew a child who was depressed at about 10.   I could go on and on showing up this secular society. I used to be in a Union.   When I went to their conference there were many delegates who had left their husbands and wives behind, but they decided that free from their spouses they could sleep with one another.    Or the young woman happily married who went on to a social work course with me, and when the three year were up, she had been so brainwashed by the feminist element that she left her husband and took the children.    Then there are the girls who decide it does not really matter if someone is married or not, if they can take the men away from their wives and children, then what harm have they done?  After all he did not love his wife.    I have probably been alive too long and see too many things.

But I guess there are many who do not really care about marriage and the protection of children as Jesus did.    But if there are how can Jesus help them?    There is much talk in the Gospels about setting captives free and delivering people from bondage.    Setting Prisoners Free, is how some describe it, and it is in the Gospels.    But does this mean we open prisons and let thieves and murderers onto the streets?   No, it means that we release ourselves from the bondage of sin.   We first acknowledge that the teachings of Jesus is truth itself, then we ask how can we rid ourselves of the weaknesses within us that leads us to so much misery.   How do we find self-control?    All around us today we see people to whom sex is a drug.    When the sexual drive starts, the world tells young people to masturbate, it is good for you.    Then when the young person goes into a 'relationship' it appear that this means they have found a partner to have sex with.     The word 'Love' has little meaning, and the goal is to release our sexual impulses.    The more the partners the more young people discover that sex in not love and love is not sex.   Soon they are unable to bond with a partner in a loving relationship, since they have been hurt so many times, they cannot trust anyone to care and love them in a way that within them they really desire.   It is a very sad sad world we live in today, but never mind if  you cannot achieve the basic need for love there is always drugs that will bring you happiness - for a time.

What the children need is to know is that Jesus did not give his life because it was a good thing to 'give up your life for your friends'.   He gave human beings the power through the Church to discover what love really is.    If you 'eat his flesh and drink his blood' with devotion, he will change your into images of himself.   You will learn to love Him, and you will confess your wrongs and find His forgiveness.   You will still be tempted but you will understand that God is there and you can make yourself a better person and find happiness if you do not yield.   It is  a battle where St Paul tells us our enemies are 'principalities and powers'.   We are called to 'be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect' and you have many brothers and sisters in the Church who will be on your side.  Just say one little prayer to start your journey.  "Jesus mercy, Mary help"   God bless.
