MARY THE NEW EVE GIVES BIRTH TO THE NEW FAMILY OF GOD.

There is a beautiful prayer during the Mass which I quote from time to time on my blog.   It is when the priest pours water into the wine and says "Through the mingling of this water and wine may we partake in the divinity of  Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity"   Now this is what happened at that first Christmas the Father through the Spirit made the Second Person of the Trinity- Man

But to make him truly human he had to be born of a woman.   And not just any woman.   For Jesus as a human would need the love of a mother like every other child.   But Jesus would also need someone who could, here on earth, accompany him on his mission, who understood why he was here, and was indeed the perfect mother for him.    Such a woman the Father had prepared for him in Mary of Nazareth.    When Gabriel came at the appointed hour to tell her of God's plan, he greeted her "Hail, FULL OF GRACE".    Now to be filled with grace other mortals need Baptism, which removes the effect of our rebellion against God through the rebellion of Adam and Eve, but our nature is still prone to sin and we constantly still rebel.    But God through his Church has given us the means of repentance to store up grace again through Confession.   But it is the Sacrifice of the Mass and Communion where we share in the Divinity of Christ who shared in our humanity that we have the greatest blessings if we are humble and do not blind ourselves by sin to the awesome wonder of a Humble God, joining himself to us, and making us part of Him.    If only we knew how the angels almost envy us mortals in receiving such a gift of love.   We would not stand, we would prostrate ourselves.

From the time of the Apostles, there was never any doubt that the bread was the flesh of Jesus and the flesh literally.    A Protestant Historian JND Kelly writes on the early Church.  "Eucharistic teaching it should be understood at the outset was in general unquestionably realist. The consecrated bread and wine were taken to be, and were treated and designated as, the Saviours Body and Blood".   (Early Christian Doctrines, 440}    He also quotes St Ignatius of Antioch in a dispute with the early heretics the Docetists'   "The bread is the flesh of Jesus, the cup  his blood.

Now the flesh that Jesus inherited was from the body of Mary.   As St Paul tells us Jesus was the New Adam, a spotless being who was born of another spotless being, who was pure and holy, and never knew sin.    So what is the Sacred Host?     It is the new Adam and Eve, a new parentage for those who follow Christ.  The Father is in Jesus, and Jesus is in Mary, and in the Sacred Host they are feeding their children with the bread of holiness.   O brothers and sisters, Is there anything more wonderful than this love of God for us, unworthy though we are.  Let us on Christmas morning welcome's this great gift into ourselves, so that we too may become partakers in the Divinity of Christ and worthy children of Mary, our Mother.   Let us always ask for the grace of humility, that we may learn to love the Blessed Sacrament more and more and more.
