FATIMA - the Movie.

A film was released in 2020 called Fatima.   It was a new version of the story of three children to whom the Mother of God appeared in 1917 asking that the world turn back to God and say the Rosary every day, so that peace can return to the world.  In 1917 the First World War was being fought and thousands of young men were dying.   Portugal also had a new Government replacing the Monarchy, and this government was determined to revolutionise Portugal by ridding it of the superstition of religion and the Catholic Church.   Then a girl of ten, another of eight, and a boy of seven started seeing visions and to prove their visions were real announcing that on the 13th October there would be a miracle at Fatima.   These children were of course mocked but many officials and newspaper reporters came to scoff at their delusions, since in a scientific age there could be no miracles.    There were 70,000 sightseers on the field at Fatima who saw the sun dance in the sky and suddenly fall to earth causing panic, and then went back into the sky to its normal place.   Of course in the rest of the world the sun remained in the heavens as it always did.   So why in one small place did 70,000 people experience the same thing?   The reporters there working for the Government and atheism surprisingly  went back to their newspapers and gave an account of what happened to a credulous population.   There were none who disputed the facts.   Cameras took pictures, film makers took films.   The miracle certainly weakened the Governments attack on the Church, and brought Portugal back to God.

There have been two Hollywood films on Fatima, but this latest production by Universal is by far the best.   At the visions there were no inspirational music or special effects, it was just three children kneeling and talking to Mary, and Jacinta turning back to the crowd to tell them what Mary was asking for, but the film had much to say about the hardships of Lucia, the eldest of the three.    Her mother found it hard to believe her, and Lucia suffered much ridicule and spite from those who would not believe her in the village.   They wanted miracles for the sick in their families and scoffed at the visionaries when what they wanted did not happen.    In removing the Hollywood glamour, the film was a down to earth and believable story and a film every Catholic should watch, yes, every Catholic for in the end Fatima is a message from Our Lady for today.   We cannot just shove the Mother of God out of the Church, just because we do not want to be different from other Christian Denominations.  Mary in Heaven is still human and shares the same love for us as her Son.

You can watch the film on Netflix.   I sent off for a DVD but it brought difficulties in that it was a Region 1 DVD, but my son uploaded it for me.    You can also buy a download.    Watch it, enjoy it, and say the Rosary.

Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us, as we pray our Rosaries.
