WE KNOW WHERE KASPER STANDS, WE KNOW WHERE BURK STANDS; BUT WHERE DOES JESUS STAND, or its that unimportant.?

Let us go back to Jesus.  He is standing there before a crowd as depicted in Mark 10.  As Jews they would be following the law of Moses and there would be among them people who had divorced their wives in accordance with Jewish law by issuing a writ of divorce.  They would have compassionate families with them, who like people today regretted that the marriage was not a faithful one.  It would be very much like the congregation in many of our English parishes.   A decision was made to test Jesus and find out if indeed He was a man of compassion and would agree with Moses.   So the question of divorce was raised.

Unlike many of the clergy of today however Jesus took no refuge in the subterfuge known as 'pastoral concern' which means in practice avoiding the question and remaining popular.   The Truth which Jesus had come to bear witness to was to be announced boldly and unequivocally.   Yes, there are many who finding no comfort in his answer would call Him 'judgemental' and find some other kind of Jesus to replace him but the family was the very basic unit on which the Kingdom of God on earth would be built.

"Moses allowed divorce because of the hardness of your hearts but in the beginning it was not so.."
Little wonder they wanted to crucify Jesus.  He was judging them.  In today's Church this is just unacceptable and it would have been unacceptable to the crowd then.  Surely at least Jesus should have allowed for 'conscience'.  Sorry Jesus I think you are wrong.   Or Jesus we know you did not really mean it, that is just some figure of speech.  God did not really intend male and female to be married forever did He?

"In the beginning God made them Male and Female" so we know He is talking about a Father and Mother and not any other family unit.   If we want to talk about polygamy or homosexuality then the Synod on the Family is not where it should be discussed, let us get back to the plan of Jesus first and foremost and rescue the thousands of children, have they been mentioned, for the misery of divorce.

"And for this reason a man should leave his father and mother and cling to his wife and the two shall become one flesh"   He should not just have sex with a woman and leave her to it, he has responsibility to the woman with whom he uses the wonderful God given gift of sex.  He must leave home and look after her by taking her as his wife.  The two will become one flesh in their children.

Then comes the words which makes the study of Mark 10 almost forbidden in Bible study groups of today.  "What God has joined together let not man tear asunder"      No, we cannot accept this.  He surely did not mean it.  No, Father at Mass always tells us Jesus loves us and it so so comforting.  Reading what He said, well, it is not so comforting   Does Jesus really expect us to follow rules?   I know he said "If you love me keep my Commandments".   But Father at Mass always tells us that the only thing he commanded of us was love.   I like Father so I will trust him rather than scripture for he is so understanding.

SO  WHAT  SIDE  IS  JESUS  ON AT  THE  SYNOD?

O come on, the Synod has nothing to do with Him has it?   It is about the Church.

Did you like my last post then?

"All authority is given to me, go to all nations.................TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL I HAVE COMMANDED YOU,  and I am with you all days even to the end of the world".  But the disciples were going to die so it was His Church, a teaching Church, Jesus was referring to in Matthew 28.
