MIGRANTS; The Moral High Ground v Social Responsibility

We now know that only one in five people crossing into Europe are fleeing the war in Syria.   This is from Eurostat the publication of the irresponsible European Parliament which started the mess of human trafficking in the first place by announcing an open border.   The United Nations warned them in April of the folly, many MEP's warned them, but they decided to take the Moral High Ground nevertheless.    Once the numbers of immigrants started increasing there was panic.   Even the welcoming Germans at last saw the folly and set up borders especially when their police was faced with immigrants waving ISIL flags.   That of course is something the European Parliament has completely ignored - that they have brought the war in Syria into Europe and we are now waiting for the bombs to go off.

Having said this I will be immediately accused of scaremongering by those on the moral high ground.    Let me assure you that I have every sympathy for the many ordinary men, women, and children  now trapped in Europe because of an irresponsible invitation.    I am sorry to say I believe many will die this winter as they face cold temperatures they have never before experienced.  They are now wandering Europe as lost souls and with an arrogance that is unbelievable the European Parliament is still not closing its open border.

We are now all part of this war.  But is there a Christian or should I say Catholic response?   Pope Francis asked religious congregations to stop running parts of their  establishments for profit telling them that if they did so they should pay taxes.    This is true of all Catholic establishments including parishes.  If a parish owns building for rent let them use them for refugees.   If a priest is living in a four bedroom villa let him give it up and take smaller accommodation.   This problem will not be solved by sponsored walks or selling cakes, this problem demands sacrifice.   We cannot just put the burden on ordinary people who are worried about the availability of schools for their children, houses for their young people, jobs for their young adults.   Do not jump to the conclusion that they are not as caring as we are for these are real issues that have to be discussed and not just dismissed.    I worry very much for my grandchildren now that the war has come to Europe.   Mother Mary pray for your children.
