My Apologia: I do not have a PH.D in Theology.

I remember once having a conversation with a journalist from the Catholic Herald.  It was text messaging.  When I put my case he replied that he could not really discuss things with me because I was not of the same intellectual level.    I replied that he should not be so hard on himself since he did at times write good articles.    But seriously I could not believe the pride and arrogance of the fellow.  But this has been in the Church now since the Spirit of Vatican II and ordinary Catholics have been downgraded in their knowledge of the Faith and replaced by so called 'experts' who must be believed because they have a degree or have sold books and ordinary Catholics are just ignorant.

Let me give examples.  The expert who told us that the Real Presence is not physical or spiritual but somewhere in between.  A Strange Idea.

The expert who in a local school told members of the Diocese that the priest did not change the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ - it was the Holy Spirit.   When it was pointed out that without the priest using the words of Christ the Holy Spirit would not do his work - he emphasised that it was not the work of the priest.  Apparently we ignorant Catholics thought the priest performed magic.

The expert from Caritas who told us that when Jesus told us to hate our father and mother he was showing his dislike of the family.

The expert who assured listeners that Catholics were forbidden to read the Bible until the time of Pius XII in the 1940's despite the Encyclical of Pope Leo in the 1860's encouraging Catholics to read the Bible for 15 minutes a day an offering a 300 days indulgence.  And of course Catholic Bookshops were full of bibles which I for one read.

But why did people listen to such people - because they were 'experts' meaning that the Catholic in the pew was ignorant and should not argue with someone with a degree.  The past forty years have also been the years of novelties - read 2Timothy4.

At a higher level from little me there was a right how-do-you-do in the Washington Post because someone had written a letter in defence of someone who was not happy about the behaviour of the Pope and one or two Cardinals.   One would have thought that as a journalist he would have some intelligence but 26 Jesuits objected that he did not have a PH.D in Theology and therefore had no right to his opinion.  And talk about not seeing the plank in your brothers eye when the beam is in your own they objected to the name calling of him and other conservative HATERS.   You could laugh if it was not a serious business concerning the future of the Church.

Let me apologise then for this blog.  How dare I, an ignorant Catholic with no degree, criticise EXPERTS.
