So the Synod Begins.

Today the Synod began and in the Churches in England and Wales the Gospel was on Mark 10 and the unequivocal condemnation of Divorce by Jesus.  Well we know his position but then many priests will woe that they have to preach on this and many others will just ignore it.  They will be facing congregations where half will be divorced and their minds will be filled with thoughts of not being popular, so they will not teach as Christ taught, and it was all right for Christ to risk unpopularity but they cannot possibly hurt people - it is not Christian or should I say Xtian.   Well perhaps I am being too judgemental but one thing should be faced up to by these clergy and that is that they are in this mess because THE CHURCH FAILED TO TEACH THE GOSPEL AND WHEN THE GOSPEL WAS CHALLENGED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE GUTS TO STAND BESIDE JESUS.   So they carry on being popular and doing absolutely nothing to change the situations that time and again they find themselves in - just be the understanding priest that will do.  Christ was just an idealist and good marriages are just an ideal.  That is a good line.

So how did the Church get into this mess?   It was because they ignored whist was happening to the young.  They were so busy pleasing adults and trying to build happy communities that they did not notice how young people were suffering.    Not surprising then that few young people were coming to the Churches after they left school.   Many of them came from broken homes and this meant that their potential was crushed and they looked at a Church which boasted to be against divorce and yet through annulments and blessings de facto supported it.    Why did the Church do nothing.    If there is a God why does he allow this.  I know a young girl of twelve who in talking to her sister said just this "I do not believe in God for if there was a God he would never have made me so unhappy"   Seldom is the passage we read in Church today which adds the plight of the children and how God will punish those who hurt them read in conjunction with the first part on Divorce.  But it is not a different topic it is one and the same.  Jesus knew of the hurt -  why do priests and bishops not know.
Of course the children still will not count.  The Synod is about whether the adult divorced and remarried an receive communion.  Those who do not give a damn about Christ or his Church already receive since they are not going to be told what they do - they will follow their conscience.    Does this help children?   "What?  Children?  No, it is about me"  Now what was that about the 'me' Church and the 'we' Church      Pray fervently that the Church will be delivered this Synod from its enemies, and they are now howling like the wolves they are..

FAIR AS THE MOON, BRIGHT AS THE SUN, TERRIBLE AS AN ARMY SET IN BATTLE ARRAY

'Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array'. The meaning of 'virgo Immaculata'

As you will see from the stained glass window the name given to the image is Virgo Immaculata.   Mary was the virgin who remained sinless and spotless.  Yes she would have been tempted by Satan, but as the image shows she kept close to God in prayer and all the wiles of Satan, the forbidden fruit he offered, depictdd by the apple, ended up stuck in his throat while the right foot of Mary crushed his head. "I will put enmity between Thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed", God tole the serpent in Genesis   Satan was no match for Jesus who was God made Man but he had overcome a mere mortal before in Eve, What a triumph it would have been to destroy she whom Jesus loved above al others - his mother.   But Mary kept close to Jesus and to God, the new Eve, and mother of the new children that the death of Jesus brought into being.    And as Revelations 12 tells us having failed to destroy the birth of Jesus Satan  went after her other children - us.       When
