THERE CAN BE NO UNITY IN THE CHURCH WITHOUT MARY

I have spoken so much about the relationship between Mary and her Son Jesus.   That bond of love which united them was certainly the love of a mother for her son, but on the part of Jesus it was not just a son for his mother, for he and God the Father could never have succeeded in their plan of salvation without such a wonderful, devoted, and holy woman.    She was the bridge between the Father and the Son, for to be born truly human God the Son humbled Himself to taker  the flesh of Mary.

As she cared for Him throughout his life Jesus experienced the best of being human.   When things went wrong she was there to put it right again.   When he doubted  his calling she was there to strengthen his Faith.  When he fell, she was there to raise him up again and tend to his wounds.    She was always there for him.   On Calvary she wept and suffered for him.   No, Mary was no ordinary woman she was an extraordinary one chosen by the Father as a special daughter  and gift to His Son.

But she was also a compassionate woman who cared for others.   At Cana the newly married couple were in danger of being put to shame since there was not enough wine.    Mary heard of their  plight and was moved to help them.   She went to Jesus and said "They have no wine".   Notice that she did not ask him to do anything.   Jesus replied "What is that to me or  to thee.  My hour has not yet come"   His moment of teaching and working miracles was still in the future.   But he knew exactly what "They have no wine" actually meant.    For he too had the compassion of his mother.   Mary knowing this told the servants to fill the vessels with water for she knew her son so well, and the water was changed into wine.    Notice however that Mary left the decision to Jesus.  She merely observed she did not ask.   When two people love each other so deeply there is an understanding beyond words.

As Mary knelt at the foot of the Cross suffering the agony in her heart which Jesus was suffering in his body, Jesus turned and acknowledge her.    St John was beside her and he said "Woman behold your son, son behold your mother"   Jesus was recognising that Mary in offering him to God and suffering his passion in her heart was doing so for the love  of the human race, so he made her the mother of the human race.   She was to fulfil her love for him by loving and caring for those he loved and cared for.   Her concern for the bride and groom at Cana was now extended to every human being who would be created.    For the sick she would in heaven say to Jesus  "They need healing"....For the depressed she would say "They need strength"    For the repentant sinner she would say "They need mercy"   How can we believe that Jesus would ignore his mother in Heaven?   How can we believe that when  as sinner turns to her instead of him he would be offended?   Such a thing is not possible.

So as at Cana Mary was the Advocate of the newly weds with Jesus, she is now our Advocate with Jesus.   That she is a woman and a mother has always beer something special in her role.    Jesus we know from scripture will come to judge the living and the dead.   This representation of someone who also judges us sometimes makes us feel unworthy to ask him.  But Mary is so different.   She never judges us she only wants to help us back to friendship with her son.   She is truly the Mother of Mercy.

Today the Church is so divided  and the Kingdom of Satan seems to be guiding mankind to sin and death.  When so many parents fear for their children as the power of Satan grown Our Mother turned to Jesus and said "My Son, they need help, let me go and speak to them"   This was permitted and she appeared at Fatima and told three little children what  God was asking of us.    "Give them proof of my visit  to the children" she asked and we had the miracle of the sun.   What more can a caring Mother do?    When devotion to the Rosary was banished from many Catholic Churches, an act of banishing Mary, without a mother figure in the family our children were lost.   I have heard priests say that they wish they could do more for the young people and I cry out within myself "Give them back to their Mother, she will lead them to Jesus".    I know this because I was once young and the Church had young people ready to die for the faith and devoted to Mary.    We need our young people and Mary back with us.
