Cummings.

It is not often I switch in this blog to politics, although in my facebook I often comment on religion.   But the case of Dominc Cummings has now caught the eye of certain bishops in the Church of England who may well wish they had left the things of Caesar's to Caesar, and the things of God to God.

The story is a family one.    Dominic and his wife contracted Covid-19, but they had a four year old son.  Realising that they may soon be unable to look after him, they got in touch with their family members who offered to look after him since they knew the child and the child knew them.    So they took the child to Durham which was over 200 miles away, handed him over at the door of their parents, and continued to self isolate in their sisters house till the next day when they returned to London.    In other words they were protecting a venerable person, their child, which meant they broke no rules.   Indeed they acted utterly responsibly.    They demonstrated that they were in fact good parents and did not spread the virus.    Now I believe that there is every chance that in the population there are others doing the same.     Now another thing about Dominic is that he is not an MP.   He is just an adviser to the Government.   Since his advice to Boris was contrary to the wishes of the opposition in Parliament, he was very much disliked.    So for looking after his boy, which would not have raised an eyebrow among normal sensible people, a campaign of vitriolic hate was launched against him.   And if anyone is asking if there is anything changed in the UK over the past 30 years then I would put forward these hate campaigns and destruction of people as the first example.    We are actually returning to the politics of the 20's and 30's where some people have their rights to speak taken from them, and their political and religious beliefs vilified by howling mobs, mostly in the media.

Getting back to the bishops of the Church of England, as Jesus taught to the Pharisee's there is no point of having rules for their own sake, they must have a purpose in everyday life.     If a man cannot rescue a sheep on the Sabbath, what is the point of the law?  If a man cannot safeguard his son because of rules, what is the point of the rules?      In fact listen to how one side will quote the rules on lockdown omitting the vulnerability rule, and failing to answer those who quote it..   The dishonesty is frightening.     The conclusion of the bishops is amazing.   All Boris should do is apologise then we can  all get on with our lives.   Really?   Please stick to the Church, My Lords.
