Another Post revisited: Mother Theresa.

The work of Mother Theresa is well known.   She picked up the poor and the thing from the streets.  She nursed them as best she could and she and her nuns never gave up their work but continues day in and day out.  Their dedication was almost unnatural.   But the secret of course was that her work was of the supernatural.   She did not ask for honours or respect and she made many enemies by stating her Faith in a simple and uncomplicated way - she was dealing with the Body of Christ.   Her faith also led her to rescue aborted babies and speak fiercely on behalf of the unborn, heeding not whom she offended.   She also told the world that there was a greater poverty than material poverty and that was spiritual poverty.   This spiritual poverty is yet to be understood by many who would otherwise comment on the good works of Mother Theresa.  Spiritual poverty is making excuses for our sins.

Mother Theresa was not a do-gooder.  She kept going through the power of prayer, through the Mass, daily Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and Devotion to Mary through the Rosary.   This was the food that kept her and her nuns alive to the message of Christ and the Body of Christ.   There are many within the Church who believe that good works are sufficient and teaching good works is all that is needed.   They teach good works to the children in schools and believe that this is sufficient for the pupils.   They teach the children to be do-gooders but not Catholics.   And the things that Mother Theresa cherished they despise.   In the seventies ridding the Church of devotions and implementing and Adult Faith was rampant.   What the Catholic Church was seen to do would draw many converts and make the Church popular.  What they did do was destroy the Faith of young people in God,and as they watched the moral base and spirituality collapse and children leaving  school alienated from the Church, they pretended all was well.

If we are going to make Mother Theresa a model let us give children the real Mother Theresa.   The woman who talked about spiritual poverty.  The woman who was not afraid of being unpopular by speaking for the unborn.   The woman who was upset by watching people receive the Body of Christ in their hands rather than on their knees and on their tongue.   A woman who was totally dedicated to Jesus.
