Mother Mary is a figure of Ruth. She really loves us as a Mother.


Mary is a figure of Ruth in the Old Testament who when she heard that her husband was planning to kill the Jewish people went and pleaded with him to show mercy and because of his love for her the King did so.

If we turn now to Our Lady of Fatima you will see on the bottom of her dress a star, it is the star of Ruth.      Ruth means 'see and hasten'    Now when Mary sees any of her children in trouble she cannot come to help them quickly enough if they call on her.  They just have to say 'Mary' and she will be at their side.   I think of so many young people today who are living unhappy and perhaps sinful lives and they go on living these lives because the world offers them no remedy for their misery.   From an unhappy childhood they can go on to drugs, prostitution, self harm and even suicide.   Now I must be careful here, I am not preaching miracles.   "Just say a Hail Mary and all will be well"   That would be irresponsible.   We have been created by God with a body and a soul in one person and although we search for cures for our body we cannot totally ignore there is a  spiritual dimension to us which when working with our bodily remedies  can bring hope and consolation.    When that spiritual dimension is a recognition of God, based on the truth of our Faith and not just emotionalism, we can really move forward.  

So let us get back to Mary.   A young person thinks he or she is utter rubbish as far as everyone else is concerned.   This becomes a self fulfilling prophecy since if you behave you are  rubbish you will be treated like rubbish.   So you just get on with your everyday miserable life.   Then along comes a Marian fanatic like me and asks you to say a Hail Mary every day.   "O sure" you say with a scowl on your face.   But wait, this guy may once have been where you are.    Yes, he went for counselling and listened to some good advice but perhaps unlike you he managed to put it into practice in his life.   He found the way to turn theory into practice.  What did he do?     Her said a Hail Mary every day..   He was now fighting with his body and his soul together. The holistic approach.

Sometimes hidden and not easily seen in the Church, there is whole world of love you can experience.   Jesus started that world  when he died on the Cross.   But before he died he spoke to Mary and St John.  "Woman behold your son"   Not 'Mother behold your son", no 'Woman'   for she was the woman in Genesis who would be at enmity with Satan, and in Revelations 12 she was the Woman bright as the sun and fair as the moon whose children the dragon would pursue because he failed to destroy Mary and her baby Jesus.  We are those children.

So start making a difference in your life.   "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.   Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb JESUS.    Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

FAIR AS THE MOON, BRIGHT AS THE SUN, TERRIBLE AS AN ARMY SET IN BATTLE ARRAY

'Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array'. The meaning of 'virgo Immaculata'

As you will see from the stained glass window the name given to the image is Virgo Immaculata.   Mary was the virgin who remained sinless and spotless.  Yes she would have been tempted by Satan, but as the image shows she kept close to God in prayer and all the wiles of Satan, the forbidden fruit he offered, depictdd by the apple, ended up stuck in his throat while the right foot of Mary crushed his head. "I will put enmity between Thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed", God tole the serpent in Genesis   Satan was no match for Jesus who was God made Man but he had overcome a mere mortal before in Eve, What a triumph it would have been to destroy she whom Jesus loved above al others - his mother.   But Mary kept close to Jesus and to God, the new Eve, and mother of the new children that the death of Jesus brought into being.    And as Revelations 12 tells us having failed to destroy the birth of Jesus Satan  went after her other children - us.       When
