Mary and the Church

Does Mary have a good relationship with the Catholic Church?   Or put another way do bishops, priests, and people give her the attention she deserves, especially when she appears on earth pleading for her Son?

Let us examine the evidence.   The first of her apparitions of the 19th and 20th Century was at La Salette.  Two children Melanie, 14, and Maximin, 11, came across her weeping.   She revealed to them that her Son disapproved of so many people using his name in blasphemy in conversations and how the people no longer kept the Sabbath as special day for God.   She also gave them a secret.  My understanding now is that a secret is something the visionaries have to write down at a later stage so that the message as given will not be misrepresented.   After much interrogation by senior members of the Church and even St John Vianney, the children were found to be speaking truthfully.   When the secret was written how caused great consternation.   Melanie had set up a convent to spread the word of Mary but found herself in the middle of a great deal of hostility over the book she had written on the secret which cause great anger.  The secret was about the future of the Church as delivered to her by Our Lady.   It contained references to bishops and priests falling away from the faith and eventually Rome itself being taken over by the Anti-Christ.  The bishops of France objected to these revelations and threatened to withdraw their contribution of Peters Pence unless Rome stopped the spread of this book.   Amazingly this revelation of Our Lady was put on the Index of forbidden books, and Sister Melanie ordered not to spread the message Mary had given her,   Melanie was not the cranky old nun she was depicted as but a very holy woman.

Then we come to Fatima.   Accepted by the Church?  Yes.   But when Our Lady appeared to Sr Lucy and told her in 1929 that the time had come for Russia to be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart, it took from then to 1984 for the Consecration to be done and even then there were questions it it was done properly.   But Sister Lucy did say Our Lady accepted this one, so maybe because times had changed or Mary had just had enough or maybe it was done properly, it was accepted.    Then there was the Third Secret.  This was to be opened in 1960 and it was. but the Pope was so horrified at what he read that he put it away again and said it was not for his Pontificate.   So the letter remained unopened by one unfaithful Pope after another.    Again it was Pope John Paul II that decided to tell the world about the Third Secret in the year 2000.

How many people go to Lourdes to pray for the Conversion of Sinners.   Many do I know. but outside of Lourdes the message is more about showing compassion to the sick and disabled rather than actually saying the rosary.    There are many bishops, priests, and lay people who go to Lourdes having taken their rosaries out of the drawers they put them back in after their last visit     Many young people are drawn into the idea of helping the sick at Lourdes but few are given the idea that the Rosary is an integral part of the Lourdes message.   Perhaps inflamed by love of neighbour they too put their Rosary beads into the drawers until the next time.

What kind of people live in the Catholic Church?   Are they really worth the heartache that Mary suffers?   No wonder at her first apparition she was crying.   What a task she had given herself.

May the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary be soon.
