WE MUST STOP OFFENDING GOD WHO IS ALREADY TOO MUCH OFFENDED

I'll Sing a Hymn to Mary is a beautiful hymn which I sang in my young days when devotion to Mary was part of our Catholic Church as it had been for centuries.   She is still of course part of OurCatholic Church but when the 'educated classes' came into our Churches and Schools in the seventies and eighties they decided that devotion to Mary was a hindrance to Ecumenism.   In this they followed a Vatican II priest Karl Rahner who rejected a discussion document on Our Lady which he said "would put Ecumenism back ten years"   This presented a picture of hard line Protestants refusing to talk to Catholics while such devotion was part of the Catholic Faith.    If Devotion to Mary really did do this then what kind of ecumenism could this have been.   No Karl Rahner was using this as an excuse and a pretty poor one.   There was growing attack on Our Lady because her position was an inspiration to prayer and faithfulness to Jesus and that was the one thing that had to be changed.

And so it turned out, when the next attack was on devotion to Jesus Himself, and not just His teachings, but his very presence in the Blessed Sacrament in our Churches.    With no instructions on the matter, not one mention in the documents of Vatican II, not one written instruction from Rome or any Pope, devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament was attacked by the removing of altar rails  to stop people kneeling in humility, and to stop them even genuflecting the Tabernacle was removed from the Main Altar in parish Churches when an instructions for Cathedrals was published.   There was total lack of honesty among Bishops.   Even Catholic teaching on the Real Presence came under attack.  A Father Strange in his book decided that the presence of Jesus was not spiritual nor physical but something in between.  Novel books that  challenged the Church were in great demand.    Yes, Rosary groups were tolerated in a show of 'diversity" but the Rosary was not taught in schools and devotion to Mary almost died.

Then a few months ago the Pope visited Fatima for the Centenary celebration.    A Pilgrim statue went round the Dioceses of England and Wales and a relatively few people attended.    The words of Mary rang out again. "They must stop offending God who already is much offended"   Sorry, Mary, went have a Church for the 21st century.   This was brought home to me when a 'leading' catechist stamped her feet at a catechetical session and almost shouted "The Church will have to change its teaching on Abortion, Divorce, and Contraception.  No doubt she had already made up her mind about the teachings of Jesus on Sin and Hell, Devils and Angels, but then there are many disagreements on Jesus so you can make up our own mind.

So Our Lady of Fatima has a battle on her hands.    But her Immaculate Heart will triumph in the end even though the Church for the 21st Century has little love for the hearts of herself and her Son.

We must stop offending God whois already too much offended.
