The Guardian, Dirty Politics, and Me

Well there I was out there in Winklebury, Basingstoke, delivering my UKIP leaflets when my mobile rang. "Come home Dad, you are all over the Guardian and UKIP wants to speak to you. Imagine that, little me all over the Guardian (it turned out to be just the Guardian website). I found the website at home and there I found my Catholic Blog Catholic Rights being quoted. It quoted me accurately on its first charge that anyone who did not fear Islam was a fool in relation to Islamaphobia but then I was talking about the universal picture and how Christians are facing martyrdom by Islamist militants and suffering just as Christians in the early church. What the Guardian was trying to do was slant the story into a local setting where our Moslem neighbours were going to rise up against us. They were trying to paint me as anti-Moslem. To this I had the perfect answer. When the soldier Lee Rigby was killed in London the very next morning I sent an e-mail to the Hasingstoke Mosque at Sarum Hill in Basingstoke telling them how my Irish wife had been afraid to leave the house after the IRA bombings of England and from her experience I knew that there would be mothers amongst them who would be frightened of any reaction against themselves and their children. But there were no extremists in Basingstoke I assured them who would take such action. I assured the of the prayers of the Christian Community. I was struck dumb by the second attack which the Guardian kept deliberately fuzzy. I believed that Britain was run by sexual perverts intent on child abuse and the Moslems were partly to blame. Well, take this story at face value and I was the biggest chump in the world and UKIP should never have put me forward. But why was the BBC and every anti UKIP media not pressing this. After searching I found it. It had been something I wrote about 5 years ago when Labour was in power and Ed Balls was intent on introducing compulsory sex education for 4 year olds in which they would be taught to feel the comfort of their bodies. You bet I called this child abuse. But then it was not something that Labour wanted to resurrect. So that is my small moment of fame in the big world. Still there were a great deal of people looking in on Catholic Rights. I hope they also found something positive.
